Rental Contract Terms & Conditions

 

Rental Contract
All rentals are subject to the terms and conditions of the rental agreement.

Credit cards/Debit Cards
All renters must have a valid credit card and must be presented on collection.

Europcar New Zealand accepts all recognised major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diners Card. The credit card used for payment of the rental must be in the renter’s name. The renter’s signature must appear on the back of the card. Credit & Debit Card charges will incur a surcharge on Visa & Mastercard of 1.43%, 3.85% on American Express and 3.3% on Diners.

If a debit card is presented the client will be charged a deposit of $338NZD, this deposit will be refunded once the vehicle is returned.

Rental Days
At Europcar our days are based on 24-hour period. A grace period of 29 minutes is offered and then a full day’s rate will be charged after this time.

Conditions
1. Change of vehicle

Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Europcar reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost.  This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.

In the event that Europcar is unable to provide a vehicle, no commission or compensation will be provided. Any request for refund of monies paid to the travel agent will be at travel agent’s discretion.

2.  Vehicle category
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category

Kilometre restrictions
Rate of the day Product – Retail conditions will apply and will be advised upon making your reservation.

Additional kms are charged at 27.5 cents per km.

Baby Seats
Europcar New Zealand provides Baby Capsules (Birth to approx 9 months), Baby Seats (approx 9 months to approx 3 years) and Booster Seats (approx 3 years+).

Baby seats are required to be pre-booked to ensure supply upon arrival. The cost is $39.38 (NZD) per rental.

GPS Units
Europcar New Zealand can provide portable GPS Units which can be fitted to any passenger or commercial vehicle. Available on request only in all major cities and airports locations.

GPS units are $11.19NZD incl GST per day with a maximum cost of $111.93NZD incl GST

Maps
NZ road maps can be provided at no additional charge.

Fuel
Vehicle is rented with a full tank of fuel and has to be returned with a full tank of fuel. If the vehicle is not full of fuel upon return refuelling charges apply.

Driving Restrictions
1.0You must only use the Vehicle on a surface which is sealed and which is not in an area or in a use excluded in 1.2.

1.1You may use the Vehicle on a gazetted road, if it is a 4WD and which is not in an area or in a use excluded in 1.2.

1.2 In New Zealand you must not drive or take on the following roads:

a) Ball Hutt (Mt Cook);
b) Skippers (Queenstown);
c) 90 mile beach (Northland);
d) All roads north of Colville on the Coromandel Penninsula, the Tapu to Coroglen road (all parts east of Rapaura Gardens), the 309 road from Coromandel to Kairnarama and the Blackjack Road from Kuatuna and Opito.
e) On the following Highways on the South Island between the hours of 2200 and 0600 (local time) from the 1st June until 30th October:-

i)State Highway 6 between Twizel and Queenstown;
ii)The Milford Road between Te Anau and Milford Sound;
iii)The west coast road between Franz Joseph and Wanaka; and
iv)Arthur’s Pass

Without the Owner’s written consent on or before the commencement of the Rental Period; and
v)on beaches or through streams, dams, rivers, or flood waters;
vi)on flood prone roads or any roadway where the Police or any other Government authority have issued a warning or caution.

Ferry Information & Fees
Although the client leaves their vehicle in each Island, we treat an ‘Auckland to Christchurch’ hire as a two leg booking. Two reservations must be made if the client is travelling from South to North Island or vice versa.

Clients check on to the ferry in a very similar fashion to an airplane. The baggage is checked on and they board the ferry.

They drop their first car at the end of one Island and pick-up a new car in the other Island. (This saves the client at least $180 (NZD) to transport car.

A fresh vehicle is provided when clients disembark the ferry on the other side.

If the car is taken across on the Ferry all repositioning fees will be passed onto the client directly.

Drivers Licenses
Driver’s license must be valid for the period of rental and must be in English.
Probationary or restricted licences are not acceptable nor are photocopies.
Europcar New Zealand accepts all international drivers’ licences when accompanied with a license of origin.
For identification purposes, we also require clients to provide their credit card details.
Photocopies of credit cards are not acceptable as ID

Age Requirements
A customer must be at least 21 years of age to be eligible to rent a car from Europcar Australia/New Zealand and must carry a full licence (not probationary or restricted). However, there are restrictions for renters under the age of 25.

21-24yr olds must be a credit card holder
21-24yr olds must pay Age Surcharge of $27NZD per day with a maximum cost of $371.25NZD
Drivers Aged 21-22 cannot reduce their Damage Liability, however they can purchase WWI
Drivers Aged 21 – 24 can only rent the following vehicles ECMR, CDAR, IDAR and FDAR
A minimum age of 25 yrs is required for the following vehicles PVAR, IVAR, 4WD (FFAR) and luxury/prestige vehicles.
All 4WD hirers MUST hold a credit card

Additional Drivers
When collecting the vehicle each driver must be listed on the Rental Agreement and they must present their drivers licence at time of collection. An additional driver is charged at $3.38 NZD per day, per driver with a maximum charge of $47.32NZD per driver

Vehicle Return and Replacement
You must return your vehicle to Europcar to the place, on the date and by the time shown at the commencement of the rental period.

If you return the vehicle to a location other than that was shown on at the commencement of the rental period, a ‘drop fee’ may apply. If a ‘drop fee’ applies you must pay it at the end of the rental period

If you return the vehicle to any place other than a Europcar location, or if the Europcar location is not open, you will be deemed by Europcar to have returned the Vehicle when Europcar takes possession of the Vehicle keys. The rental charges will continue and you will be responsible for the vehicle until such time as Europcar deem the vehicle to have been returned. You must pay all additional rental charges.

Europcar may request the immediate return of the vehicle, or Europcar may repossess the vehicle without notice. You must also pay Europcar any cost it incurs in the repossession of the vehicle as well as all costs and charges under the rental agreement.

Europcar reserves the right to not replace the vehicle if the vehicle or third party property is damaged before the rental period expires.

Premium Location Fee (PLS)
Premium Location Surcharge of $35.00 (NZD) plus GST will apply to any hire commencing at an Airport.

Europcar has counters at all major Airports. For smaller Airports without Europcar Counters a “Meet & Greet” Service is provided. A fee of $35 (NZD) + GST will apply.

The following after hours fees apply for Ferry Pick ups and City Locations:
Bookings between 1900 and 0700 $35.00 inc GST

A 24-hour toll free telephone service is available for emergencies, Ph. 0800 800 409.

Remote Location Surcharge
Remote Location Surcharge of $55.00 (NZD) applies to Greymouth for pick-up only.

Remote Location Minimum Days
The below New Zealand locations will be on freesell only with a minimum number of days.

Any rentals less than the required minimum days will be on a request basis only for ALL vehicles.

Minimum 3 Days (All Vehicles) Invercargill (IVCT01), Nelson (NSNT01), New Plymouth City (NPLC01), Rotorua (R0TT01)
Minimum 5 Days (All Vehicles) Palmerston North (PMRT01), Blenheim (BHET01)

Snow Cover
Snow Cover is compulsory if clients wish to travel above the snow line, without which the client is not permitted to take the vehicle to the snowfields.


If a client chooses to take the standard Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) on a passenger vehicle as well as the Snow Coverage the Damage Liability Fee for above and below the snow line will be $338 NZD.

If the client only wants to purchase the Snow Coverage on a passenger vehicle then the Damage Liability Fee will be $3093.75 NZD for above and below the snow line.

Snow coverage is compulsory for vehicles travelling above the snow line. The cost is at $7.88 NZD (incl tax) per day for all vehicles

If a client travels to the snow fields without purchasing the Snow Coverage they will be liable for all costs associated with any accident or incident.

Ski Racks / Snow Chains
Customers can hire both Ski Racks and Snow Chains for $11.25NZD per day each for the duration of the rental period (available at all locations during winter May to October) or at a combined reduced cost of $22.50NZD per day. These costs are both capped at $56.25NZD

NZ will provide a skierised car for ski racks and chains. Available for all vehicles except for the Toyota Hiace (IVAR) which cannot take Ski Racks.

Cars are fitted with roof racks and chains are in the boot.

24 Hour roadside Assistance
All Europcar locations provide clients with 24 hour emergency road side assistance.

The number in case of a break down for our standard fleet is 0800 625 035, this is printed on the Rental Agreement and Rental Agreement Wallet.

Roadside assistance is free for all mechanical damage defects not resulting from Renter misuse of the vehicle.

We charge for all non-mechanical defects such as lost keys, keys locked in the vehicle, flat battery due to lights being left on etc. Costs charged can be obtained by contacting the above number 0800 625 035.

Damage Protection
When hiring vehicles, clients are liable for damage: this means that we will charge a Damage Liability Fee (DLF) in the event of an accident or incident involving a Europcar vehicle. This fee is charged regardless of whom is at fault and the amount of damage.

We require that all vehicles be returned in the same condition in which they received it, except for ordinary wear and tear. If the vehicle is returned damaged, the customer is liable and required to pay the Damage Liability Fee (DLF).

Reduced DLF to $338 NZD available at $21.38 NZD per day, or $24.55 NZD per day for POM package (includes WWI)

WWI (Wheels, Windscreens & Iridescences) – This is an option included in the Peace of Mind.

SPOM – Super Peace of Mind available at $35.80 per day and reduces the DLF to $0 for classes ECMR, CDAR, IDAR, FDAR, IFAR, SFAR & PVAR only.

FW & T (Fair Wear & Tear) – This is classified as very minor damage that is deemed reasonable during the rental of a vehicle. Damage charges will not apply; this includes chips up to 2mm radius (no dent), scratches up to 10mm length and 1mm width (no dent) or any scratch that can be polished out.

There are a number of special conditions where you will be responsible for all costs to repair the vehicle.

Some conditions are:
Rectifying tyre punctures, windscreen or headlight damage unless WWI is purchased
Damage caused or contributed by Breach of the Rental Agreement
Vehicle is submerged in water
Driving off road, Driving on beaches and/ or dry river beds
Proven to be drink driving
Damage caused deliberately or recklessly
Damage to under body and overhead or roof damage
Damage caused to Commercial Vehicles as a result of reversing
Leaving the scene of an accident prior to Police attendance or Formal reporting
The full cost of replacing or repairing all contents supplied by Europcar

Glossary of Rental Agreement Terms
Authorised Driver” means:

An additional driver who is listed on and signs Part A (of the Rental Agreement),

Your employer or a fellow employee, if either is engaged in activities that are directly related to Your business duties and the Vehicle has been hired using a Corporate Account.

Corporate Account” means a company, association or group who has met the criteria of Europcar Asia Pacific to establish either a Credit Facility, Direct payment account or any other contracted rate for contracted rates and conditions.

Damage Liability Fee” or “DLF” means Your contribution to the Owner in the event of an accident or incident involving the Vehicle, subject to specified conditions.

Europcar” means the person or entity detailed above the words “The Owner” on Part A (of the Rental Agreement) or where applicable, an independent Europcar System licensee.


LDW” (Loss Damage Waiver/Reduction) means the fee to reduce the Damage Liability Fee and, if You accept LDW on Part A (of the Rental Agreement), You agree to pay the LDW fee.


Rental Period” means the period commencing at the time and on the date shown on Part A (of the Rental Agreement) & pending at the time and on the date that You return (or are regarded as returning) the Vehicle to Europcar.


Substitute Vehicle Insurance” means a policy of motor vehicle insurance held by You or an Authorised Driver which covers You or the Authorised Driver while You or they use the Vehicle as a substitute for the vehicle insured under that policy.

POM” (Peace of Mind) means the combination of LDW & WWI.

Premium Location Surcharge” (PLS) means the percentage fee on Part A (of the Rental Agreement) charged to You on all charges incurred by You on the Rental Agreement.

Commercial Vehicle” means any vehicle used for carrying goods

Passenger Vehicle” means any vehicle other than a four wheel drive that is designed to carry more than 3 people including the driver

4WD” (four wheel drive) means any vehicle whose class code contains F as the second letter. The vehicle class appears on Part A (of the Rental Agreement).

Sealed Road” being a road sealed with a hard material such as tar, bitumen or concrete

Gazetted Road” means either a sealed or unsealed road regularly maintained by a local, state or government body or council

Overhead Damage” means any damage to the vehicle at or above the top of the front windscreen of the vehicle

Vehicle” means the Vehicle described on Part A of the Rental Agreement (or any substitute Vehicle), and includes its parts, components and accessories

VRRF” means Vehicle Registration Recovery Fee charged to partially recover the Vehicle registration costs.

WWI” means the protection for Wheels, Windscreen & Iridescences however it excludes negligence or abuse by You or an Authorised Driver and, if You accept WWI on Part A (of the Rental Agreement), You agree to pay the daily LDW fee.

You” or “Your” refers to:
the person(s) with whom the Rental Agreement is made and whose details are stated under the words (“The Renter”) on Part A (of the Rental Agreement.)

any authorised driver

the corporate account whose name appears as “CD Name” on Part A (of the Rental Agreement)

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive

Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
